Sounds promising! Henry seems to be the guru on things here. Always so kind, helpful and extremely competent! Wish both of you good luck with the rebuild! Hope you will take pictures and keep us posted! :)

I'm happy to report that the next stage of this engine rebuild is in good hands!
This week I drove the 862 miles (1,387km) from my house to personally deliver the engine to Henry Magno - Magno Restorations.
For 10 years now, Henry has helped me with advice and guidance as I came across things I had not seen.
I have also worked with him on a head rebuild, water pump repair/upgrade, and heater hoses.
This was a good chance to actually meet Henry in person and go over all the details of the engine rebuild.
I just hadn't found a local person that I was comfortable with that knows the details of these older MB engines.
In the mean time, I'll be working on the rest of the engine compartment that may need attention.

Next of to do list is airfilter. Intake pipe is missing.  I have to do a new one, but how long is it?

If the same as my '52 220, then the Bosh number I have is 1 237 013 007.  I got mine at RockAuto.  I also have several MB points and those have a part number of 000 158 07 09.

I don't have the full number handy, but the Bosch number ends in 007. This is the same set of contacts for all the late fifties pontons except 190 SL, and probably was used into the early sixties as well. I think the Bosch may be getting hard to find.

No sealing here, they did later on the pontons. If it's really clean, a little gasket sealer might help on the circumference of the speedo cable end.

Technical / Gearbox oil leak (170S, 1951)
« Last post by twigren on August 28, 2017, 03:23:02 AM »
Dear friends,

Discovered an oil leak from gearbox, upper back side.
Oil is apparently leaking from the entry of speedometer cable.

After a day of disassembling things (removing the box and a bunch of things...) , I noticed there are no sealing inside the speedometer entry hole. Cant really understand how the construction is intented to seal and avoid leaks. Speedometer cable (metal), inserted in the metalcase and secured by a sprint screw. I thinks I miss some part here?

Question to you experts;
Shouldn't there be any type of sealing here? If so, what type?

Hi

Anyone knows where I can find a breaker contact for my distributor. Or knows the part number for this.

My distributor is a Bosch VEU 4R6
