Transmission oil
« on: June 01, 2017, 03:13:36 PM »
Dear friends,
before filling new transmission oil, I just want a confirmation from you experts.
The manual and previous advices here in forum differs abit...
I plan to use an oil with ATF dextron 3 classification. semi syntetic.
For me it sound very good and I hope the transmission agrees :-)
Would this be an ok choice?
Best Regards
Thomas

George Murphy, former technical director for MB Club of America, stated that Dextron 2 or 3 would be appropriate today for manual transmissions (this was back in 2005).

Original Service Manual Recommendations:
Transmission - Shell transmission oil HDL; Mobiloil CW (?)

George Murphy in 2005:
My 1953 owner's manual calls for Shell Donax T-6 - which is an early ATF.  My MB shop manual calls for ATF in the MANUAL transmission. Most MB manual transmissions use Dexron II or III ATF because the tolerances are so tight compared to most cars.
