Postwar 170V & 170D / 1951 170 Va build Water pump
« Last post by Fast Ed on October 16, 2018, 10:27:38 AM »
I put a new water pump on. it has two "weep" holes. It's weeping a fair amount. The old pump has plugs screwed into the weep holes. Should it tap the holes on the new one and put the plugs in?

Thanks

Need some advice, I have a 1935 200, w21  my late husband, Helmut, has partially restored it, but I do not have the skills to finish the restoration so need to pass it on to someone who will complete it. Can you give me any idea of the price I should expect. The car is compete and solid, all the timber has been replaced and any welding has been done. Would really appreciate your advice.

Update -
I just got home from a long weekend drive of 662km/411miles, and everything looks to be just fine.
So far I have driven 1038km/645miles since the rebuild.

Hi,
As a matter of fact, your post is most timely.
I did pick up the engine one month ago.  I now have it installed and this week I have been doing some driving and tweaking.
Everything has been just fine so far.  A lot of rain lately has slowed me up a bit but tomorrow I will have her out on the road again.
As with many restorations, there are always unexpected things to deal with.  In my case, since I drive this car a lot, and frequently long distances, I wanted everything in prime condition and reliable.  I didn't want to have to get into the engine or clutch anytime soon.  So far, it looks great.
