New toy for me
« on: February 19, 2009, 02:21:41 AM »
Recently picked up a 1965 German made 1200 Beetle, most Beetle's here in Australia were made here locally, so makes this one a bit rarer.

Pretty pleased with it, only had to give it a service, fit a new fan belt and a tai light globe.

Noticed your dashboard radio blanking panel (I have a spare surround identical to yours).  I believe that it fits a Becker Europa TR with the fat push buttons.  If you could find such a radio on eBay with the ivory buttons and knobs it would look fantastic in there.  That's a nice looking beetle!

Hi Ian

The radio for my car is an Akkord Picnic radio, it pulls out and you can put batteries in it and use it where ever you want.

The original radio came with the Beetle when I bought it.

Rather nifty idea I think.

That's even better!  Wow that thing hides in there behind what I though was just a blanking panel then.  That is so cool.  I hate it when people put modern CD playes in a dashboard like yours.  Yours is great.

This VW is nearly identical to the first car I ever bought.  Being a teenager at the time, I have to admit I took some liberties with it the summer between my Junior and Senior years in High School.  It was the first car I ever did any serious remodeling on (note I didn't say "restoration" but rather "remodeling")
Thanks for the memories.
