has to do with width of browsing window.  If you drag your browsing window just a bit wider, the bars disappear.  I'm on a laptop and it seems to work for me no problem.

Des,
I also see the scroll bars on your avitar and most of the others as well.
Jim, I did notice that there was less of a scroll needed when I maximized my screen, but it didn't go away.  I'm on a pretty old CRT monitor and most of the new flat screens out there are "wide format".  Maybe the page layout is optimized for these wider screens. I've waiting for a good excuse to upgrade to a newer flat screen.

I'm using a 19" LCD and haven't changed my screen size, using the browser window at full screen.

Try resizing your avatar.  Mine is 96 pixels x 71 pixels which seems to fit without scroll bars appearing.  Both Des and Scott have widths of 125 pixels.

It was all working ok up until a few days ago, haven't changed any sittings or browser window on my computer,
I did just bump up the screen resolution and that fixed the problem.

I was just thinking it might have been a change on the forum somehow.

thanks

John, now if you keep it up, I'll never be able to convince my wife I need a newer, larger screen.

My old fuzzy CRT and my old eyes make it difficult to increase the resolution much past the current 1024 X 768.  Yes, it does reduce the need for scrolling, but increases the need for "squinting".

Well I think it is a forum theme issue, rather than our computers,

I just changed my theme to the "Impressive" theme and the problem has vanished, now if I change it back to the forum default it is there again.

Sorry Scott .... I wasn't thinking, I too want the 20" flat screen monitor.  Until then reading glasses!

I think that Jim reduced width of the sidebar in order to make more room for the side sitemap and still have room for us to actually read the message.

You are 1 step ahead of me Des, I didn't know we could change the themes.

Its under Profile  - Modify Profile - Look and Layout,

However if you change it some of the things that Jim has added don't work, like the unread post bit at the top of the page.

I can probably increase the size of the theme main window which should take care of it, but it is the new theme.  This theme has a "wrapper"  notice the background and then the display page.
Someday in the future after I've tried a few more themes, I'll put a download at the top for every to select which one they want....right now, there just are TOO MANY differences depending on upgraded versions of the software in the past.
I'll go increase the wrapper size and Des, see if that is better.

Still getting the scroll bars, but might be a bit better, as it is only about 5 pixels too small, maybe 10.

Okay, Des, the wrapper is at 100%.  If that doesn't work, there is one more process I can do.

great.  I wanted to do it by browser controls, versus resizing avatars, since I have 125x125 setup as parameters. ....and I learned a couple things in the process of finding a solution.  "Necessity is indeed the mother of invention"  :)
