The car is a 1951 (or 52) Mercedes 220 sedan. Also described in the german brochures as the "Innenlenker". The car is powered by a six cylinder single overhead cam engine and uses a column mounted shift for the four speed transmission. It has a four door body (with suicide front doors) built from the pre-war body dies when it was known as the "170". The main difference between the pre and post war bodies is the mounting of the headlights, on the pre-war cars, they are mounted in teardrop housings away from the cowl and fenders. The post war car headlights (this car) are mounted into the front of the fenders eith a simple chrome bezel.
As can be seen from the pix, this car is not in very good condition. At some point it was stored outside, exposed to the weather. There is a lot of rust on the body, particularly where panels are joined or trim is attached. The floor of the trunk is badly rusted out (there are large holes). The body however remains tight (slam the doors).
The original interior is still present although in poor condition, and would be useful for copying purposes. The dash is all there, but someone has faced it with some type of corduroy (??) material.
This car was last driven in the late 60's or early 70's and has been garaged since then. There are a great many spare parts including an engine and transmission.
The car is for sale for $5000.00 O.B.O. Any reasonable offer will be considered. The car has been in my posession for several decades and is presently stored in the city of Orange, and can be seen at any time by appointmant. I can be contacted through Craigs list or by phone at 714.639.1679, (leave a message if I'm not there).
