Steering box seal?
« on: August 20, 2010, 08:20:37 AM »
Can you please tell me, how to remove the part on the picture? To unscrew it, is there threading? Or just knock it out? Does it need heating?

It is fitted years ago with an ordinary rubber seal, which obviously leaks. What must be the replacement? A new rubber seal? Or Tallow gasket, I guess that was the original seal? /sorry I am not sure if I use the correct name, but Tallow gasket must be that old style seal, used on water pumps and many other places/

It is a radial seal that is press fit into the opening.  It is a standard DIN 6503 seal, size A22x37x7 for the steering shaft and a size A28 x 42.5 x 8 for the pitman arm shaft.

Thank you very much, John! The ring went out without any problems, there is no threading. I'll look for the seals, thank you!
