170v prototype?
« on: July 17, 2011, 02:18:37 PM »
Just found that interesting picture. What's that vehicle? A development of the 170v? Or a special custom body? The doors open in different direction, the front mask sits in different angle and probably is longer than the usual, the back window seems larger, too. What is it? Found it here http://mercedesbenzblogphotodb.wordpress.com but found no other information.

The 190Vb was one of three prototypes that were not a production run.  The three all utilized boxer engines.  The boxer engines are employed in Porsche and Subaru cars today.   They cars were as follows:

  • 130Vb (W144) - 4 cylinder engine - qty 18 each
  • 190Vb (W145) - 6 cylinder engine - qty 4 each
  • 250Vb (W146) - 8 cylinder engine - qty 16 each

An 8 cylinder boxer engine in 1936? Cool!

That sent me on another great (but time wasting) internet search when I should have been doing something productive.

Very interesting!!! I noticed a silencer on the driver's side, pointing to some different engine, but it's a big surprise to hear about a boxer! Too bad these did not survive!
