Fahrzeugdetails
In the 1930’s, Mercedes-Benz developed special off-road sports cars for use in cross-country rallies. These “multi-talents” were developed on the basis of models 170 V and 230, however with higher output 2-liter and 2.3 liter engines. The body construction made use of lighter weight materials and fenders made from aluminum. Numerous special features such as knobby tires, a larger fuel tank, and even handles on the rear fenders used by the passenger to increase traction by shifting body weight, improved off-road performance. These off-road sports cars were entered by both privateers and professional teams with great success at events such as the “Deutsche Alpenfahrt” (German Alpine Race).

This 230 S Special Roadster was completely restored by the Mercedes-Benz Classic Center in Fellbach, Germany to as-delivered condition. Based on the original frame and original parts available, this car was completely built up to recreate the vehicle in its factory-new condition.
To ensure complete adherence to the factory's original work, the Classic Center and the Mercedes-Benz Archives conducted extensive research. And with detailed documentation available in terms of original brochures, vehicle operating manuals, workshop and parts literature, technical reports, design drawings and specifications, vehicle records, and original parts, all components from the cylinder head to the individual body parts were reproduced to original specifications.

I would need to see the chassis number but if it has the 50 gallon tank it is quite possible my dad owned this car in the 1950s.
