MB 170 S Cabriolet B , 1951 (W136) PRIVATE SALE
« on: July 16, 2012, 09:49:27 AM »
History
This matching numbers unmolested example of 170 SCB model, is one of the very few survivors that were imported in Greece back in the 1950s. Its original registration certifies it has spent at least 5 decades in the dry climate of Athens, Greece. In 1995 it was offered for sale and soon after we were its new owners. After an in-depth inspection of the carís condition we decided to carry-out a full frame-on restoration.

Restoration

Body: Upon purchase the car was totally rust and accident-free. The previous owner had ordered a color change from medium blue to black everywhere but the upper side of the floors which were left in blue for sampling purposes. We decided to re-spray the car in black leaving the floors untouched. All but the soft top's chrome parts were removed, replated and refitted.

Interior: The seats/doors were retrimmed in leather and a new carpet along with a new soft top were installed. All wooden parts were restored. Several interior parts were ordered and fitted where necessary. Its original Becker radio was also restored at that time.

Mechanicals: The engine, the clutch and the brakes were totally overhauled using original MB parts. The flywheel and various smaller parts were also replaced.

Actual Condition:
Since its thorough restoration in early 2001 ,the car has covered 16000 km (10000 mi). The body is in excellent condition with proper panel gaps. There appears to be no rust anywhere on the car. The paint is unmarked and still appears fresh. The chrome is also in very good condition with soft topís arms showing minor weathering. The interior is also unmarked with minimal to no signs of wear. The engine starts effortlessly with no smoke or odors, runs smoothly allowing gentle application of its power through the gears. Apart from the expected road noise there are no rattles or noises. The steering shows no play and its rare self-lube system is fully functional. The brakes are firm with no uneven pull.

Asking price : 72,000 Euros (negotiable)
Willing to assist to shipping from vehicleís location (Athens, Greece, S. Europe)
