Does anyone know if the subject MB needs a special puller? If so doe's anyone have a picture of it?

Mercedes did make a steering wheel puller, but no longer available.  Here is one by by Samstag Sales, but quite expensive for a one time use.

I pulled my steering wheel without the use of a puller.  In fact it came off rather easily.

I don't think this puller will work on the 220. You have to improvise. Out of the car, you can support the backside of the hub and carefully drive the shaft out. John was lucky. They usually don't come off easily. Some heating of the hub can be required.
