Different colors of the body 220CA
« on: August 18, 2013, 05:23:27 PM »
I am confused regarding the different colors of the 220 CA
I have read blogs in Germany, looked at pictures and still not sure which parts are black.
Even looked at some cars at the Classic show in Essen (Germany)

I know the inside of the trunk and trunk lid are black.
What about the following parts:

Inside fenders front and back
underneath the hood (inside)
firewall is black battery compartment?
side parts air intake
floor panels inside and underneath (black?)
Inside doors

I know some of you have a lot of experience and have seen original cars before repainted.

Look forward to your response.

Henk

Henk,
Hopefully someone in the group can help you.  Many of the 220 cab A have been "restored" so it is very difficult to determine what the colors were originally.  It is probably a pretty safe bet that the floor panels both above and below were black as well as the inside door panels.  Most all of the pictures that I have show the firewall being black also.  The rest is a mystery .... inside fenders, hood bottom, and inside engine side panels can be found as body color or black.

I don't want to confuse the issue because I don't know if the Cab A and Cab B are similar in regards to the paint.
So, let's see if anyone has specific Cab A information before I offer my observations from my cab B.

Here is what I'm pretty sure about. Underside of hood, inside of upper side panels body color. Firewall black, unlike sedans and Cab B's.

Underside of body I think is black, at least evidence pointed to that on the 55 we are restoring. The inner fender panels appeared to be black as well as undersides of fenders. I think that Cab A's got different treatment than Cab B's and sedans. A very original Cab B I know has the tan underbody and inner fender wells, but I don't remember about the fenders themselves.
