Dome light or Cabin Interior light for 170Va
« on: September 18, 2013, 09:43:40 PM »

Hello,

I am loking for an origional dome light for my 170Va. Can anyone tell me if this one on ebay is origional for a 1950 170 Va. Also give me some idea as to how much I should be paying as the opening bid on this one seems very high.

Thanks  :)

The 170Va dome light is a lot different than the one in your attachment.  It is a single large oval with a white plastic lens.  Too late tonight, but I will try to take a picture tomorrow and post it so you have an idea of what it looks like.

Here is the post war 170Va / Vb interior dome light.  As you can see, it is much different than the ones pictured in previous posts.  The MB part number is 10 136 825 00 01.

Correction, the picture in this post are for a 170Sb sedan (MB part # 10 187 825 00 01).  The 170Va / Vb sedan dome lights are similarly sized, but  oval shaped without the squared off ends (MB part # 10 136 825 00 01).  The dome light pictured in this post is from my 170Vb but upon investigation it must have been replaced later by the 170Sb type or just one of those items that was handy at the factory and used on my car.  Don't really know ..... another mystery.

The previously pictured posts of interior lights (pair) are for cabriolets

I did some research of my own and here is what I came up with.

The 170Va parts manual shows the light (with an on/off switch) to be oval in shape and it bears the part # 136 825 00 01, whereas the part # of the plastic cover is 136 825 00 10.

I found a picture of a 170Va ceiling on the net and it also shows the light to be oval.

The third picture is from a parts lot which was for sale. The light in that pic is supposed to be from a 170Va and is also oval, but it's plastic cover is not plain but has a parallel straight lines pattern. This light is very similar to the one that is presently on ebay the link of which I have attached.

Intrestingly there is another dome light put on German ebay today ( refer to link below) which is also supposed to be for a 170 V and D and it looks very similar to the one that is fitted on John Ellis's 170Vb.

A note worthy thing is that this dome light is without a switch whereas the 170 Va parts manual light description indicates the light to be with a switch (item# 48 Deckenlampe mit eingebautem Schalter).

Therefore what I can conclude is that the 170Va's light was definitely oval with an On/Off switch, whereas the 170Vb's light was probably the one in the pic that John posted and did not have a switch.

Can you gentlemen shed some light.

The ebay listings has the light for listed for cars in which it was not used, like pontons. I notice that some ebay sellers just list any models without regard to accuracy. I have a Vb parts book. I'll try to remember to look.
