Starting 170Da
« on: July 06, 2014, 01:07:41 PM »
I can't seem to get my 170Da started. If i had to guess, I would say it is a fuel issue. I put new diesel in the tank, primed the system but it doesn't seem if any diesel is getting to the carburetor. Any thoughts or suggestions?  Stephen

Stephen,

Did you bleed the air from the metal fuel lines?

All I did was prime the system using the primer. Should I be doing something else?

Yes, as you pump, loosen the top of the fuel filter to release air, do the same for the lines one at a time going to the four injectors to release air in the lines.
Once the engine is running, do the same to release any residual air in the lines.
Br sure to wear your goggles and use some paper towels to soak up the Diesel fuel.
Let the group know how you did.

I noticed I have a substantial diesel leak at the base of the primer. I had the unit rebuilt. Not sure what is going to be needed to stop the leak.  Stephen

More info.
Around 1902, Mr Packard was asked by his secretary for sales literature and he said, tell the customer to ask the man who owns one.

I went out and purchased the pimp on eBay. I assume I need to unscrew the housing on the pump and replace whatever is there with my purchase.  Stephen

That will do it. On this one you only pump it. No more turning.

I am still having issues getting fuel to the carburetor. I tried to bleed all the air out of the system but apparently I am missing something. Any thoughts on the matter would be welcomed. Stephen

What have you done since the last time it started?
The Diesel has an injection pump. You keep writing carburetor.

The only thing I have done is changed out an oil line and replaced the diesel priming pump. I can bleed the system but nothing is getting to the fuel injector.

Have you tried to bleed each line going to the four fuel injectors one at a time?

Which oil line did you change?
