«

I have just bought a Mercedes 170 W136 and will start restoration, I want to know its exact model year and type (V or VA or what)to order the correct parts and the previous owner does not know as it belonged to his father and as been parked for more than 15yrs but running.
The Plate has the following: MERCEDES - BENZ 136110189951 KAROSSERIE
I am attaching the photo's if some one can help

Check the inside plate on chassis, under the engine on the front part.
It does look like 170V but it has lights bigger than 170V and trunk looks with some bigger star like not original. I think 170V does not have chromed lights but very similar w143 (230 model) does. Make some few pictures of the car engine and from front but Little further away. Interesting catch.

The body number indicates that it is a 1951, so that would make it a 170 Va, and yes, the trunk lid has been changed or modified as it should have the spare tire well.

136.110 is a 170D, however according to the following Mercedes Wiki link, production ended in 1950, but clearly your karosserie tag states 1951.
http://wiki.mercedes-benz-classic.com/index.php/Kategorie:W136/en#170_D_.2F_W_136_I_D.2C_1949_-_1950
I would suggest you contact your local Mercedes dealer and ask them to provide you with the data card for your car.

Also check the chassis at the right side (passenger) near the front. The model number should be an attached identification plate and stamped directly on the chassis just forward of the ID plate.
Craig is correct, the number would signify a diesel model 170D. the "110" following the "136" identifies a diesel sedan. A bit confusing because a 170Da sedan (1951) should have a code "160"

For what it's worth, I don't think that is a "110" it's "11" followed by five digits of body number. I have another body plate I'm looking at, maybe from a 170 S that I parted out, 181 11 11639 spaced in that way with no year.
