Found a 170 at a swap meet

I was checking out a local swap meet and this car was there for sale. The paper on the front window said it was a 1942. They were asking 8k for it. There was a claim that the engine was rebuilt. The car received many lookers but no buyers from what I saw.

Interesting air filter. It is from a military car, isn't it?

I found out that the car had been in storage for some time. The wood trim in the car has a covering of wood grain contact paper over it. Much of it is peeling off as it sits there. There is allot of surface rust but I did not see any that was rusted through. The clock is missing from the dash. It is good starting point for restoration. I got tempted. I left without it.
What is it really worth?

i see some parts that are not Original
Rear lights , bumpers, font lights are only chrome on convertibles and indeed the air filter,
Doorhandle backdoor is not oke.
Does it drive?
Further nice car , perhaps you can offer 6500 and go up to 7000

A friend told me he heard it run and it drove in to the building. I thought about offering 5k. A spare engine and trans for my car was the only thing that makes me consider it. My lack of enthusiasm might be evident.
I am not sure if it is a 1942 as advertised. I get the feeling it is a post war car.

I looked this up on a listing of RB numbers and dates for the 170 V and this number post-dates the information which goes through 1940. I'll post it. Curiously, they seemed to have abandoned the two number system chassis number and RB number and rolled them into one number. I'm not sure how long this continued. Do we have any members with an early postwar vehicle pre- 1949?

The car has been sold. It was an interesting find for a small town. The car with new owner may come up on the site.
