Starter mechanism on 170Sb
« on: July 26, 2008, 08:32:36 PM »

I Wonder if anyone can show how the starter mechanism looks on a 170Sb?

It must bee some kind of handle inside the car under the dash board connected via wire ore shaft to the starter.

Is have replaced my starter some week ago and the old one had a home made starter pedal attached and seems to me to have come from some slightly older model as for instance 1950 or so.

Would bee nice to know how the original looks both in the connection to starter and inside the car.

Hopefully

The 170Sb uses an push button electrically activated solenoid valve for engaging the starter.  The Bosch model number is EGC 0.6/6 R 21.  I have attached a picture of the starter from the Bosch catalog.

I expect that your starter is a Bosch EGC 0.6/6 R 12 which is a foot pedal activated starter and used on the 170V, Va, Vb, 170S.  See attached picture for this starter.

Thank You very much John for excellent information!

I have to do some modifacation though.
As the older starter (Bosch EGC 0.6/6 R 12) used a home made starter pedal and the new one looks like the one for the 170v end S on toure provided pics.

I spoke to the guy who sold the newrefurbished starter (Bosch EGC 0.6/6 R 12) and he says it had been taken from a 170 S-V and had kind of mecanism wich looken almost like the little handel to open the Hood with but slightly smaller.

I have to dig a little more anyway.
Is it maybe possible that the new starter has its handle parts put wrongly 180 degrees in the length direction do You think?

Best regards
