1936 W143 for sale on Ebay
« on: November 04, 2015, 12:51:30 PM »
My 1936 W143 is up for sale on Ebay. It was restored by the prior owner who replaced the original drivetrain with an Chevy 350 and a fixed rear axle.  The car was used for a number of years on AACA tours and other car events.  It is an amateur restoration with a number of modifications, but still retains some nice original features.

Does anyone know how easy it would be to obtain an appropriate motor for this car?  Stephen

Stephen,

Here are a couple of potential sources for a drive train.

http://www.classicmercedesbenz.co.uk/inventory.php?catg=26
http://www.prewarcar.com/classifieds/part-ads/by-make/mercedes-benz.html
as well as ebay.de.

I've been in correspondence with the Walter Nieuwkoop who has the classicmercedesbenz.co.uk site and he has indicated that he has a 230 motor and other parts as well as the 260 motor listed on the site.

Regards.
Eric

Putting this car back to original would be very hard since the front of the frame appears to have been cut off to install the modern front subframe and suspension, not to mention all the issues with the body and wood frame.  I cannot tell from the pictures what may have been cut to transplant the rear axle.

A restoration of a 230 sedan with all its original parts is a huge undertaking, especially in light of it's market value when finished. This car only has value for parts, or for the buyer who uses it as is, or as the basis for a better street rod.
